STREET VITTORIO EMANUELE II

During the Middle Ages via Vittorio Emanuele II was the high street which separated the borough and its quarters into two parts.
In the 15th century the wealthiest and most remarkable noble families built their houses, their palaces and their stone towers there and so did some craftsmen, traders and freelancers who used the arcade for their dealings. Outside the walls there were gardens and orchards.

The whole portion under the arcades was a marketplace on fixed days. In the course of the centuries this street underwent considerable changes and now it preserves only a few examples of its medieval past such as the tower of the Provana family and the facades of some mansions.
